“IF THE SHOE FITS”

Photographing Art for the Entertainment Industry

anne-molnar-photography-if-the-shoe-fits-DAIN-webI wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I gathered my equipment and roped in a couple of my favorite after-hour assistants (my husband and dad 🙂 ) and we headed over to take this photo. When I saw it, I was stunned again. It was breathtaking. The vibrant hues of blue and pink contrasting with the stark black outlines, and the eyes of the woman staring straight at you… it was captivating. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. We moved the painting carefully into the foyer where there was more space and hung it on the wall. I actually had to climb on the stair case in order to get the whole canvas in the frame and keep myself parallel to the center.  I set up the boys to man each side light and a couple reflectors, and after a few adjustments with lighting and settings we captured the image. I made a few adjustments in photoshop and delivered the file the following morning!

I am so excited for this work of art to be reproduced and hung as an inspiration to originality, boldness and beauty for everyone who sees it! You can follow DAIN’s work on instagram at @Dain_nyc

Every once in a while you get the opportunity to do something a little bit different as a photographer. Recently, while in the middle of a regular work day, I got a call from an art collector friend (who was on vacation at the time) asking if I could go to his house and photograph a work of art that hung in his dining room. A little amused at the request, I was intrigued as to the rush of going over and photographing it that night verses when he returned home from his trip. I definitely wasn’t expecting the answer he gave me! He said he was talking with one of his friends in the entertainment industry and apparently this particular work of art is garnering so much attention that they want a professional photo taken, so it can be reproduced and hung in the dressing room of America’s Next Top Model. The explanation took a couple seconds to sink in, and I just smiled and had to laugh to myself at how mindblowingly precise certain events line up to afford us some of the craziest situations of our lives. God is amazing like that. One day you are sitting there thinking everything is ordinary and just keep on, and that same evening you get a call to be part of a project bigger than yourself. I thought it was so cool and an honor to be a part of! Even though my role is simply a contributor to the bigger project, (which, aren’t we all?) this is another way to leave a legacy of inspiration through photography and art!

The piece is called If the Shoe Fits, by the NYC street artist DAIN. His work is described as using a blend of “graffiti with old Hollywood glamour,” combining elements of prominent women figures of the 1940’s and 50’s with male fashion and a variety of artistic mediums to complete a single work that averages many feet tall and wide.
